about

i’m anne, 34 years old and a fan of data and technology. what i love about this sector is that it’s always evolving. there’s something new to learn every single day. and despite the common perception, in my experience people in tech are great fun to work with!

i started at the postcode lottery group a few years ago as project lead for our online campaigns. in my time here i’ve had the chance to take on various roles in several departments. in the last few i’ve moved away from day-to-day team management and started to focus more on long-term strategic planning and vision.

currently i’m the programme lead at our international analytics hub. at the hub we bring together and develop knowledge, expertise and technology from our lotteries in five countries. one of our main projects is developing ai models.

why do you think it is important that role models need to be visible?

from my own experience, while there may be more men in the tech and analytics departments, it doesn’t impact the way we collaborate and interact. women are fully accepted, and there’s no pressure to conform. a former colleague of mine once said, “the best place to work is in tech, because everyone is accepted,” and i couldn’t agree more. i think it’s important that other women hear and see these examples.

the digital landscape is evolving rapidly, and in the coming years a wealth of talent will be required to navigate these changes. women remain underrepresented in the tech and analytics fields. often, women do not consider these areas when choosing their studies, and they are less likely than men to apply for tech job openings later. although we maintain a good gender balance in our organisation overall, we observe this trend as well. this is unfortunate, as the field offers numerous career opportunities. additionally, diversity in teams is crucial: diverse teams perform better, foster more innovation, and contribute to a more inclusive culture. fortunately, we have highly enthusiastic and ambitious female tech team members at the lotteries. we believe sharing their stories more widely will make a difference. and we hope this role model campaign will inspire more women to pursue careers in tech, and we cordially invite them to come and work with us in a tech role.
