women remain underrepresented in the tech and analytics field. on average, a third of our department is female, which is good, but there is room for improvement. naturally, we strive for fifty percent.

we believe diversity in teams is crucial: these teams perform better, foster more innovation, and contribute to a more inclusive culture. fortunately, we have highly enthusiastic and ambitious female tech members here at the lotteries. we believe sharing their stories will make a difference. we hope this campaign will inspire more women to pursue careers in tech, and we wholeheartedly invite them to come join our tech departments.

about

i’m lisanne and i’m senior data analyst at the analytics department. i’ve always been very down to earth, even as a kid. that probably explains my love for numbers. i chose to study econometrics, where there were actually more women than i expected! about a third of the students was female. throughout college i realised i wanted to do something with data science and marketing, something that combines skills like coding and social skills. at the postcode loterij & vriendenloterij i have the chance to work with numbers while also contributing to society, which is the perfect combination for me.

why do you think it is important that role models need to be visible?

my team has more men than women, and while i’m used to working with men, it does take some adjustment at times. that’s why i value collaboration with other departments, where i often work with women. it brings a refreshing dynamic i really appreciate.

working with female role models inspired me and helped me grow throughout my career. i was kind of insecure at first, afraid to speak up or ask questions. there’s some type of vulnerability that women can show that’s less common with men. it’s something i didn’t really embrace at first, but it has taught me that it can be really strong and beautiful. i think that’s especially important. i personally need visible role models because i can relate more to them and find recognition in their behaviour, challenges, and experiences. for me, this can serve as a source of strength and encouragement.

i personally learned a lot from my former manager. she showed me how to stand your ground in a men’s world and that truly inspired me. as long as there aren’t many women in tech, i think these role models are important so we can show a younger generation that it is possible. right now, with this campaign, i can personally tell them that the jobs are there, they’re great, and they are for women too!
