i’m deloryan hommers, the ceo & founder of studio deloryan, a women-led game studio dedicated to crafting games for adults who share a love for animals. my journey into the games industry began with a simple desire – to create a horse game tailored for a more mature audience, free from rainbows and pegasi. i embarked on a self-taught coding journey, to bring my vision to life.
in october 2018, i released horse reality (www.horsereality.com) a realistic horse breeding game. it became popular quickly and within five years the community grew to over 360.000 horse enthusiasts. because of them, i was able to build a team of 10+ talented individuals, with strong female representation, most of whom came from within the community!
at our 5th anniversary last year, we were honoured to receive the awesome achievements award at the dutch game awards and secured an investment from forsvc, a belgian investor, which further validated this remarkable journey.
what qualities do you think are essential for success?
in my journey, i’ve discovered that success hinges on a few critical qualities. the first is resilience; never give up when faced with challenges. instead, use open communication to seek solutions by gaining new perspectives and insights from others. ask help from your network, family, team and friends.
another vital aspect is continuous learning. be open to growth and innovation, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. that said, keep your expectations realistic. understand that success takes time and often involves setbacks! don’t let fear or impatience deter you from trying new things.
i believe these qualities lead you to success. they can be taught, but require an open mind and the willingness to embrace change and growth while maintaining realistic expectations about the challenges and timelines involved.
