the digital landscape is evolving rapidly, and in the coming years a wealth of talent will be required to navigate these changes. women remain underrepresented in the tech and analytics fields. often, women do not consider these areas when choosing their studies, and they are less likely than men to apply for tech job openings later. although we maintain a good gender balance in our organisation overall, we observe this trend as well. this is unfortunate, as the field offers numerous career opportunities. additionally, diversity in teams is crucial: diverse teams perform better, foster more innovation, and contribute to a more inclusive culture. fortunately, we have highly enthusiastic and ambitious female tech team members at the lotteries. we believe sharing their stories more widely will make a difference. and we hope this role model campaign will inspire more women to pursue careers in tech, and we cordially invite them to come and work with us in a tech role.

about
i’m anne, head of the analytics department at the postcode lottery group. i am lucky to have grown up with strong female role models around me. they taught me the very pragmatic mindset of thinking big but starting small, facing challenges along the way. this continues to help me in my day-to day-work, my personal life and the sometimes impossible job of trying to balance both.
i never anticipated that my career path would lead to the tech and analytics field, but i’m glad it did. what makes me passionate about this sector is the limitless outcomes you can achieve with data! at the postcode lottery group, tech, data and analytics play a crucial role behind the scenes. we use them to conduct our monthly draws, award prizes to our players and raise money for charities. the steps we are making in data-driven work benefit everything we do.
although i’ve never felt restricted being a woman in this industry, i remember noticing the striking imbalance at a trade event several years ago. i looked around and didn’t see a single other woman there. fortunately, the teams in my department are considerably more mixed, but there is still room for improvement. diversity in every way is crucial to moving forward. for instance, we notice that “female” qualities like empathy are very valuable in changing processes with the rise of ai. but also that great ideas emerge through international collaborations within our organisation. within the international analytics team we work with colleagues from all over europe, and more cultures are coming in. i’m very proud to be able to work with this group of great people every day!
what advice would you give to your younger self?
whatever you feel passionate about, go for it! i’ve found that so much is possible if you don’t let challenges or insecurities hold you back. this is the same message i hope to instil in my two daughters and son.
