about

my name is irene, married, mom of 3 and living in a small town near amsterdam.

in my twenties i worked in hr of a big telco. i enjoyed it, but also wanted to explore other parts of the company. the it director gave me the opportunity to join her department. from there i had several positions from marketing to project management and currently: product.

often the role you end up doing, is not the one you thought of in school. and i want to give my kids this perspective aswel: there’s so much options out there!

why do you think it is important that role models need to be visible?

in the past 10 years i worked in companies where tech was at the core of the product. women were always underrepresented, especially in engineering, but also in technical management and product owner roles.

my experience when interviewing candidates for new positions is that women often do not apply. and that is where role models come into play. when the image of women working in a tech companies gets normalized, more and more women will consider it for themselves and apply.

workplaces will become diverse, and that is key for best in class business results on the long run.
