nictiz

about

i was born and raised in hoorn, where i still live together with my husband and 4-year old son. as a child i was passionate about horses and “hated” computers. both my parents were active in it, my brother studied informatics but i wanted to have no hand in it. i applied for medicine, without any luck. i always liked solving puzzles, however, and learned more about the study medical informatics and the fun of programming. in 2003 i started this study and set new goals. this was the study i wanted to finish and how i wanted to help patients! after finishing my study and a long journey through australia and new zealand, i finished my phd in medical informatics in 2013. next, i started working for furore as an ehr implementation consultant, but soon became involved in data projects and finally became a fhir consultant. in august 2019 my son was born. when i returned from maternal leave, the ideal job was offered: help nictiz develop the birth care standard in fhir. i really enjoyed combining my fhir knowledge with my recent experience in birth care. in 2022 i decided to start working for nictiz in a combined function: interoperability expert and information analist. i love the technical part of my job, but i also love to create functional models and translate them to technical ones. at nictiz i get the opportunity to do what i love and help to improve healthcare at a national level by developing standards and facilitating data availability for health providers and citizens.

what advice would you give to your younger self?

always believe in yourself. don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. don’t doubt yourself that you cannot do it. just do it and see every obstacle or mistake as a chance to learn and grow. don’t be afraid to ask for help, together you can reach so much more. and last but not least, it doesn’t always have to be perfect, sometimes just good is good enough.
