electrical engineer at brunel

about

i am begona aguiriano, an electrical engineer at shell for over two years. originally from bilbao, spain, where i also earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in technical industrial engineering, specializing in electrical engineering. my journey has taken me from spain to the netherlands, thanks to the brunel recruitment company. along the way, i’ve experienced significant professional and personal growth

at shell moerdijk, i’ve expanded my technical expertise and sharpened my professional skills. i have a strong commitment to the challenging energy transition projects we are currently facing. today, i am confident in my abilities to succeed at work and add value to my team so that we reach our goals.

outside of work, i lead an active lifestyle. i’m a runner and enjoy playing basketball as part of a team. currently, i’m training for my next half marathon. i also love connecting people, both professionally and personally, and believe in the importance of building relationships and fostering a sense of community.

why do you think it is important that role models need to be visible?

visibility matters. when young girls and women see women like us succeeding in a technical field, it sends a powerful message: you can do this too!. visible role models challenge stereotypes, inspire confidence, and open doors for future generations. they demonstrate that success in technology isn’t about gender, it’s about passion, determination, and hard work.

campaigns like this one, and initiatives that champion women, are crucial for building a more equal world. together, we can inspire change, challenge norms, and create a future where everyone, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to thrive.
