about
becoming a partner at a big dutch law firm was not something i expected to achieve. especially when i had to stop working after the birth of our son thijmen† who suffered from the most severe form of infantile epilepsy. it was an unforeseen and life changing event which turned me from an ambitious young career woman into a full-time mother and caregiver. driven by personal experiences i founded 2cu (“to see you”) together with a colleague mom. with the support of my husband, parents and a great team of nurses i was able to start working again at the end of 2018. i joined the criminal defense & investigations team at van doorne where i was promoted partner in 2021. as a first generation dutch born peranakan chinese daughter i was told to work hard, keep quiet and be respectful. in life i learned to seize the day, stay strong and never give up. i am honored and proud to be part of this role model campaign – which is totally out of my comfort zone – and i hope it encourages young people to dare to be themselves and follow their hearts: you can do it!
what or who inspired you to pursue your chosen career?
my biggest inspiration are our two children. they motivate me to keep on going, inspired me to found 2cu and het jeroen pit huis, and encouraged me to not only be a caring mom, but also a meaningful professional who dares to stand out. “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
van doorne
when it comes to equality (or rather equity), whether it’s political, social or economic, we are far from there yet. for equality to come about, we need to make changes to the system. today, some clearly have advantages over others to become successful. at van doorne we are committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for everyone within our organization, including historically marginalized groups, to enable them to contribute with their unique talents. it’s the only way forward, to stay relevant and innovative, and offer the best service to our clients.
stichting 2cu
stichting 2cu (“to see you”) was founded in 2016 with the aim to make an invisible group of people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (pimd or zevmb) and their families visible in society. zevmb is not a diagnosis, but a condition with different causes. it impacts the whole family whereas the child itself cannot be healed, is totally dependent, and needs 24/7 supervision and care. there are approximately 2000 people with pimd in the netherlands. stichting 2cu aims to increase the quality of life of zevmb children and their families by supporting and connecting them, representing them in society, and by sharing knowledge and expertise. www.2cu.nu
