my name is agne, and i am head of bonus controlling at mediamarkt. my career began in the netherlands washing dishes in a restaurant — with no connections, no language skills, and no clear plan. what never left me was the belief that i could do more and the determination to do whatever i chose in the best possible way. step by step, through hard work, courage, and curiosity, i grew into finance leadership roles at some of europe’s most iconic companies.
success abroad, especially as a woman, takes real effort. you don’t need to be a genius but you must be curious, persistent, and willing to give your best. i tell my team to take charge of their careers, take risks, learn, fail, and try again. and most importantly, lift others along the way — believe in them as others believed in you.
what qualities do you think are essential for success?
to me, success is the satisfaction and impact you feel in what you do. it’s not about titles or roles, but about doing work that matters to you, finding joy in it, and creating a positive impact on those around you. growth can be uncomfortable, even challenging, but staying true to your values and following your own path makes it meaningful.
so what qualities are essential for success? i believe it’s honesty with yourself about what truly matters and the courage to take action to make it happen. success comes from knowing what you want, committing to it, and stepping forward, even when it feels uncertain.
